Event FAQ

What is the U.S. Grand Prix Event?
The U.S. Grand Prix is a top tier snowboarding and freeskiing event featuring both halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.

What's all the hype about?
Mammoth Mountain is the final stop for athlete's on their journey to Pyeongchang in February. The tricks and runs showcased by athletes will be top notch, with some of the best riding ever seen on our home turf. The skiers and riders representing the U.S. will be announced at Mammoth during a celebratory evening event with fireworks and music at Main Lodge. This is the first time Mammoth has hosted a halfpipe event at night, and the competition will definitely heat up the evening.

How good is the view to watch?
Watch the action from the Main Lodge sundeck, grab a spot at the base of the pipe or along the fence line in Main Park for up-close and personal viewing. Get as close to the action as possible – there will be snow-stairs cut into the halfpipe wall to allow for easy access at both night events on Friday and Saturday. The center of Main Park, along the jumps allows the best view to watch the slopestyle unfold each day.

When and where is everything happening?
The event will take place at Main Lodge with contests in Main Park below the chair line of Unbound Express (Chair 6). The sponsor village will be at the base of the competition venue, right off the Main Lodge sundeck, between Broadway Express (Chair 1) and Unbound Express (Chair 6). The schedule of events is posted above.

Is there an event afterparty?
Yes, on Saturday, Jan 20 right after the final snowboard halfpipe event.  The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team will take the stage for a nomination ceremony presented by VISA, and a firework show.  This is an event not to be missed.

Where should I stay?
Mammoth offers slopeside accommodations at Mammoth Mountain Inn – the closest accommodations to the competition. Check out the other Mammoth Lodging Collection options and book online.

How do I get there?
The free ESTA Red Line bus will get you up Main Lodge during the day. You can take one of the other ESTA lines from town, or park at The Village and get on at stop #18 across from Sushi Rei.  A special event shuttle will operate between The Village and Main Lodge for evening events on Friday and Saturday.

Where can I park?
Free parking is available near Main Lodge along Minaret Road between The Mill and Main Lodge, with a free parking shuttle operating every 10 mins. Paid Preferred Parking is available so you can be steps away from the base lodge and contest venue.

Will any trails be closed during the event?
