TAMARACK GLIDERS & AVALANCHE PROGRAMS

Training Programs

The Tamarack Gliders and Avalanche Programs continue their tradition to providing a fun way to encourage children from 5-14 to enjoy the sport of cross country skiing. Through games and creative activities, children learn skiing skills as they explore trails in the winter wonderland of the Lakes Basin. Treasure hunts, obstacle courses, games of tag and tree skiing are the means by which our qualified Tamarack instructors coach the Gliders. All groups are split by age and ability. Nine weeks of cross country excitement starts in January.

Details

Cross country skiing is fun in all kinds of weather, but in case of a severe storm, a session may be cancelled. Please call the Snow and Trail report for notice of cancellation: 760.934.2442 x7 or dial x8 to speak with a ski center instructor.

The clothing worn for cross country skiing is different than for alpine skiing. Cross country skiing is an aerobic sport and it is possible to become quite warm while exercising on snow. Multiple layer clothing are preferable to a single heavy snowsuit. Recommended clothing includes fleece jackets, nylon windbreakers and pants, and wicking type long underwear. Hats, mittens or warm gloves and sunglasses or goggles area a must. Don't forget the sunscreen.
